WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

Do you ever consider where you want to go in life?  I mean really consider it - not just think about it in passing when you are stuck in traffic or having a less than perfect day at the office.

Thinking about what you want your life to look like is not selfish nor is it a luxury.  In fact, in many ways, it is a necessity.

We have more choices today, than at any other time in history.  With opportunities like these, we need to know what we are aiming for in life.  Without some sense of focus, we can make poor choices, which can lead to spending our time, energy and money on the wrong things.

As long as we hold our future loosely, knowing we are not fully in control, why not dream about where we want to go?  But do more than dream - dare to make it a reality!

So, if you could have what you really want in life, where would you be in ten years?  What would you be doing?  Who would be part of your life?  It does take courage to ask these questions, but this courage is at the very heart of life.

Stephen Covey, in Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, says we should always "begin with the end in mind".   Are you willing to seriously consider this?

To get this process started, set aside some time over the next few weeks to look at your life. Don't be self-critical or focus on "what should have been".  Instead, look into the future.  Consider what you dream of doing, both professionally and personally.  Where might you go from here?

Some questions to think about (and possibly journal on) are...

  • If I could step into the future 10 years, what would I want my life to look like?
  • What would it take to actually get there from here (in broad-brush strokes)?
  • What are three small steps to begin this journey?
  • How can I stay encouraged and motivated to pursue my dream?

Think seriously about your target.  If you can identify it, chances are you can hit the mark.

Something to consider

If you would like to talk more about what you are dreaming of doing with your life or business, and about developing a plan to get there, give me a call to set up a free sample coaching session.  There is no further obligation.

On a Personal Note
In early November, we moved out of the mountains around Lake Tahoe and down to the valley. (Yes there have been lots of moves.) Now we are living in Reno, NV. I am finding living in the city is a much better fit for me. I am after all a "city girl".

Reno has been a great place to live. It has a terrific view of the mountains, very little traffic (remember I came originally from Atlanta), terrific people, and is only 45 minutes to Lake Tahoe. We are living on the north side of town and look over the city. Each morning we get to see the sun rise over the mountains that surround Reno. (My husband took the picture above in November.) What a great place to be!
