Issue 13 Gaining Perspective
The Power of Perspective Here in Atlanta, many new buildings dot the skyline, but two of them have held my attention over the others. I see them as I drive to work, and I've been watching them progress from skeletons to real buildings. The interesting thing is that all along I have thought one was significantly larger than the other. Today I took a different route, and I saw these buildings from a totally different angle. To my surprise, the one I'd thought all along was bigger is really a very narrow structure, and the other is quite deep. In reality, the truly larger building is the one I have been underestimating for months. Because I had been looking at these buildings from only one angle, I was missing something very significant. I discovered the real power in understanding things is in gaining true perspective. So as the year comes to an end, don't just reflect on what has been happening in your life, work, and relationships, but try to gain some perspective in these areas as well. So how do you do this? Look at the circumstance or relationship from different angles. Consider some alternatives that you have not considered before. Employ a good friend or a coach to aid you in taking a realistic inventory. An objective voice is always helpful. And as you wrap up the year, be asking yourself:	What has taken place this year in the main areas of my life? What can I learn from those happenings as I go into 2008? Do I need to reconsider any major happening from a different angle, so I can move ahead next year and not get stuck in the past? Who will I get to aid me in this process? (Maybe finding a friend who would be willing to answer these questions for themselves, would allow you two to do this exercise together.) What do I want to be different in a year from now in the major areas of my life? I wish you great blessings as your 2007 ends and 2008 begins. Happy Holidays!
