Too Much Good

Issue 9Too Much Good

Too Many Good Opportunities.

Well, spring has sprung and this is the first issue of Synergy you have received in quite a while. ByDesign Coaching and I are both still here, but we have been facing a big dilemma - too many good opportunities. Can you relate?

Maybe you have a job or business that takes at least 40 hours a week. You have relationships in your life you find fulfilling. You have activities you enjoy. And then there are the every day things in life that need to be done - going to the bank and grocery store. But after you add all that up, there is really no more room left in your life.

So what happens when new GREAT opportunities come along? We either are too busy to recognize them, or we are too tied up with the other parts of our lives to embrace them.

In 2007, I have been focused on building more space into my life, but with too many good opportunities around me, it has been hard. I am realizing more and more that life is too brief, and energy too limited, for me to think I can do everything. The result is I have to make some wise choices along the way.

When you face so many opportunities, how do you make good decisions?

What do values have to do with it? I am realizing that if I am not clear about how I will make decisions, when the need arises, I am not sure what criteria to use. This year I have been trying to be more diligent about tying the choices I am making into the values I have identified for my life.

So believe it or not, I have actually joined a gym in the last two months. And -- even

more surprising -- I am using the membership several times a week. The choice to do this ties directly into the value I have placed on my health. But I must admit, for years I have claimed that value, yet have not been committed to exercise. This year I wanted the way I am spending my life (and money) to reflect that more deeply.

So what are your deeply held values? (If you would like to know more about discovering your values - stay tuned for the next issue of Synergy or give me a call to set up a free consultation.)

Are the choices that you are making with the use of your time and energy, and other resources reflective of your deepest values?

If there are any places in your life you don't feel this is the case, what are they?

Which of these areas (choose one) would you like to see some tangible change in the next 3 months? And what is the one next step to making that change happen?

As we move into spring, I am reminded of how my life feels like it is budding with opportunities, and I am so thankful for this. But I also remain mindful of the fact that too many good opportunities can be a bad thing if I am not wise.
